This distillery seems to have been founded around 1810, and was rebuilt in 1876. Although a couple of buildings dating back to its early days are still in use, the present distillery was built during the late 1950's and early 1960's, and enlarged in the 1970's. It was owned by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries when they produced the Mackinlay blended Scotches, in which it is an important componant. The island is noted for two mountain peaks known as the Paps (breasts) of Jura, and this malt distillery. |
